CLASS DESCRIPTION

Composition in the Field – 2 hours – $135

The DPA instructors who lead these workshops are professional photographers.

In Composition in the Field, you’ll head out to interesting spots and practice taking photos, guided every step of the way by an experienced instructor. You’ll learn specific photo composition strategies as your instructor demonstrates, supervises, and gives feedback to help you apply them. Your instructor will be by your side the whole way through.

Your instructor will lead you and your fellow students through one of a variety of photogenic locations that rotate monthly across the 24 cities where we’ve taught for the past 20 years. There’s vibrant street scenes, striking interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, wildlife, flower gardens, and more.

Each photo composition strategy is easy to learn, but they often require slightly different use of camera settings, which we cover in our Master Your Camera Controls sit-down class that always comes before this class. Each strategy enables the photographer to achieve a distinct visual result, influencing both the emotional tone and storytelling impact of the final photograph.

You’ll have fun, shoot with purpose, capture great images, and start thinking more creatively about composition. You’ll leave with a strong foundation to keep growing as a photographer—whether you’re traveling, shooting events, or capturing everyday life.

You don’t need to register separately for Master Your Camera Controls—you’ll automatically be enrolled in both sessions when you choose the combo option.

Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy

If a class must be canceled due to weather or other circumstances beyond our control, we’ll gladly work with you to reschedule.

If you need to cancel or transfer to a different date, please contact us. A $25 transfer fee will apply without at least three days’ notice before the scheduled class.
